Memories of Brasilian Football Players - Garrincha and Pelé
Abstract
This article aims to contribute to the debate on the theme of football in memorialistic works. To do this, this article focus on the biographical and autobiographical production around two prominent figures of Brazilian football that marked time in the national and international sports landscape, and contributing to the construction of the myth of the “country of football”, a changing myth on permanent transformation. Two works will be analyzed: Ruy Castro’s Estrela solitária: um brasileiro chamado Garrincha (1995; Solitary Star: a Brazilian called Garrincha) and Edson Arantes do Nascimento’s Pelé, a autobiografia (2008; Pelé, the Autobiography). To the development of this research, it was essential to work with subsidiary literature that was enable the proper theoretical basis, especially around the genres “biography” and “autobiography”.
