Numerous law reforms have been submitted to the National Congress of Brazil to prohibit “ideological proselytization” in education. These propositions are linked to the action of the Non-Partisan School Program (Programa Escola sem Partido), an organization now very well known in the public sphere. Its main goal is a critical analysis of the gender debate, stigmatized as “gender theory”. For this organization, all efforts that remake the conventional role associated with men and women must be prohibited. This article analyzes these projects and their consequences in education policy and for democracy.
