Based on an analysis of press articles published in the two journals edited by the two professional associations in heavy road transport in Switzerland, this article analyses the process of establishing a “professional community” in this sector through the concept of the moral economy. This process is emerging against a backdrop of major transformations in the road transport, linked to deregulation, the introduction of the new taxation system as well as new standards for access to the profession. In this context, hauliers and truck drivers claims forms of control and distribution of resources based on principles (equality and differentiation) and standards of justice (right, need, result and merit). Findings show the key role of moral principles in the industrial relations in this important sector.
