Electrochemical characterization of the antibiotic hybrid ciprofloxacin-tobramycin
Abstract
Electrochemical sensing of antibiotics is important to assess environmental contamination. Due to the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria alternative medication, such as hybrid drug compounds are being developed. The present study reports a comprehensive electrochemical characterization of the antibiotic hybrid ciprofloxacin-tobramycin. The electrochemical behaviour of the hybrid was monitored by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry, identifying a well-defined oxidation behaviour. Levels of detection and quantification were determined at bare glassy carbon electrodes. This is the first electrochemical characterization of an antibiotic hybrid drug, providing information about detection parameters and conditions necessary for the efficient electrochemical sensing of hybrid compounds in vitro and in the environment.
