The article aims at making a reflection about utilizing the health popular education as a potentializing methodology of the health actions performed by nurses. Since the 1970s, popular education became outstanding in the realm of health because it utilizes dialogue and listening as care tools and allows the expression of the critical thought and world views by appraising interpersonal exchanges between the scientific and the popular knowledge and learning about the health-sickness process and self-care. In view of the evolution of the public policies, health actions have required new methodologies in order to work with health promotion and prevention of diseases. Thus, Popular Education is capable of rescuing the nurse´s role as an educator under the care perspective, reflecting about the methodology and the utilized working tools and the impacts and results obtained through dialogue, respect and appraisal of the subjects within their collective environment.
