Experimental design had little importance in industry until Taguchi’s ideas changed the approach to quality completely. Nowadays, it is well known that quality has to be designed “into” products and cannot be reached by inspecting and sorting before delivering. The aim of Taguchi’s Parameter Design is to create robust products insensitive tomanufacturing processes and more over insensitive to noise (or uncontrollable) factors in the customer’s environment by finding the most important controllable factors. In this real case study Taguchi’s ideas were applied to a rather complex personal care product to improve its performance.
