This article presents the results of our research on the Portuguese humor press of the 18th century. Taking as our object and topic the jesting works of the Portuguese writer José Daniel Rodrigues da Costa, we present the peculiarities of this written genre, using the concept of "editorial formula" by Roger Chartier (1997) and the conception of D. F. Mckenzie (2004) on the determination of the medium in the creation and retention of new literary genres. We analyze the inclusion of the author in the new regime of professionalization of the literary activity. --- DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.22409/gragoata.2017n43a736.
