L’idéo-scénarisation sonore du paysage comme support métaphorique de sa médiation
Abstract
Popularised by the musician and founder of acoustic ecology Raymond Murray Schafer in the 1970s, the soundscape is based on two modes of interaction with the surrounding environment, sensory perception and the imagination. It is this dual interaction with the soundscape that we propose to highlight through the presentation of two participative methods for the reconstruction of the soundscape. The user, invited to place sounds in the encompassing sphere of a panoramic image of his or her neighbourhood, recomposes the soundscapes experienced, and imagines ideal variations of them. Through this mediation process, such hermeneutic work engenders an awareness of the environmental qualities of the experienced landscape by mobilising the listener’s analogical and metaphorical cognitive faculties. The resulting ideoscenes describe the representations of the sonic environment of the neighbourhood by defining the function of the mediating transfer between the real and imaginary components of the soundscape. This mediation method thus makes it possible to share the sensory dimensions of the landscape via a participative approach to combine transversal and interdisciplinary perspectives of the landscape and its design.
