Background. The article reveals the concepts of “social mobility”, “social lift” and their impact on the development and modernization of Russian society. The quality of human capital is considered, namely the ability of a person to be mobile in society, which leads to economic prosperity and faster social progress. The relationship between the Institute of higher education and the social elevator is considered. Higher education serves as a tool for successful employment, career advancement, and self-improvement. The article substantiates the importance of social mobility for the development and modernization of Russian society, which is aimed at the development of the individual, providing him with opportunities for professional and career growth. The purpose of the work is to analyze the state of social mobility in modern Russian society and present the implementation of the social lift. Materials and methods. The tasks are implemented on the basis of a structural and functional approach, analysis and generalization of statistical data, scientific analysis of a wide range of sources, including scientific and periodical literature. Results. During the analysis, it was revealed that the social mobility is an important component of society’s life. The tasks set by the state for modernization can be successfully implemented only by solving the problem of social mobility of the younger generation. The processes of development and modernization will depend on the socially active youth and their personal success. Such mechanism can and should be a “social lift” operating throughout the country, if necessary, and beyond its borders. Conclusions. Studying the social mobility as a factor in the development and modernization of Russian society, we can conclude that each member of society has a fair chance to realize their potential, and various projects and programs are necessary for this.
