The present article analyzes the key role played by the Spanish currency in the active trade between Europeans and Muslims states of North Africa and Levant during the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries. It is studied also the North African and the Ottoman Empire money role in the early nineteenth century, masterfully studied by Domingo Badía, in his alter ego Ali Bey, the first Spanish and one of the first non-Muslim Europeans who entered in Mecca. Finally, it is analyzed the first issue of Moroccan currency outside its territory, which was held in Madrid in the late eighteenth century.
