Prevotella bivia is a gram-negative anaerobic bacterium that is generally associated with infections of the vaginal microbiome, primarily bacterial vaginosis. It is rarely associated with infections elsewhere in the human body and few case reports have been noted. When this organism is isolated from skin and soft tissue infections, joint infections, and/or bone infection, the prognosis is poor.We describe the first case to our knowledge of this organism causing osteomyelitis in a diabetic foot which was successfully treated with a combination of surgical intervention and antibiotic therapy.
