The enriching role of the artist’s book in visual photography among students of visual arts at the Faculty of Design and Arts at Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University

Abstract

The impetus of contemporary scientific revolutions, artists turned to what is known as the artist’s book as one of the methods of artistic expression , so the artist’s book depends on all forms of contemporary art, such as drawing, photography, installation art, conceptual art and expressing the artist's ideas in various materials. It is believed that this openness stems from the artist's needs to communicate with his audience and the public's interest in the narrative content of the artwork. From this standpoint, the research sought to apply free thought in the artist’s book in terms of producing innovative artworks and educating the community in plastic arts. The aim of the study was to show the enriching role of the artist’s book in visual photography among students of the Department of artist’s book. The study adopted the descriptive analytical method. The study concluded that there effect of the artist’s book having an impact on developing the style in the field of visual photography through what they offer the freedom to use raw materials and tools to express ideas. She also influenced her five functions of substitution, narration, cosmetology, persuasion, personal expression, visualization of female students. New technologies have helped open new horizons of creativity towards the recipient’s interaction with society. The artist’s book, with its three concepts of visual reference, the spread of culture through art, and the aesthetic of artist’s book, contributes to raising the competence of female students and increases their knowledge of the arts in general and plastic photography in particular.
