Traumatic quadriceps tendon ruptures are devastating injuries that hinder knee extension and drastically affect lower extremity function. In complete ruptures resulting in full extensor mechanism disruption, early diagnosis and surgical intervention are key to avoid tendon retraction, restore function, and limit morbidity and disability. Surgical management in the acute setting consists of direct repair with transosseous bone tunnels or suture anchors. Advantages of suture anchor repair include decreased operative time as well as the employment of smaller incisions. Additionally, studies have shown suture anchor repairs to be biomechanically equivalent to the more traditional transosseous tunnel repairs. This Technical Note aims to highlight the use of 2.6-mm FiberTak Button (Arthrex) suture anchors for the direct repair of an acute quadriceps tendon rupture from the superior pole of the patella.
