Science teaching and theatre: social representations about science and scientists

Abstract

The aim of this article was to analyze what were the social representations about science and scientists in two scripts of scientific theater of higher education students from two Public Universities who created and staged their plays for high school students. This qualitative research had as methodological procedure bibliographic survey and documental analysis of these scripts. As a result, it was understood that the social representation of the two scripts produced by the undergraduates reproduced their initial formations and their cultural values, which they did, and still perpetuates the social representations for secondary students, such as: the idea that the scientist is differentiated from other people, works isolated and with experiments in laboratories.The initial hypothesis was that the scripts would be permeated by social representations of their authors with characteristics of progressive conceptions and traditional teaching. The word "truth", its synonyms or antonym would not have a constant occurrence in both scripts; however this did not prevent us from observing a social representation of science that was sometimes considered absolute.
