Radiation Protection in Interventional Cardiology

Abstract

RESUMEN El desarrollo progresivo del intervencionismo cardíaco percutáneo ha hecho que el riesgo se incremente ya que existen procedimientos cada vez más complejos que antes no se realizaban y que conllevan mayor tiempo de radioscopia como son el implante percutáneo de válvula aórtica, dispositivos sobre la válvula mitral, implante de prótesis en aorta torácica o abdominal. Se revisaron los principales concepto sobre protección radiológica, el contexto actual de la cardiología intervencionista en el mundo y en Latinoamérica en cantidades de procedimientos así como las dosis acumuladas que pueden producir efectos deterministas y los NDR aceptados a nivel mundial. Palabras clave: protección radiológica, cardiología intervencionista. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract The progressive development of percutaneous cardiac intervention has meant that the risk increases as there are more and more complex procedures that were not performed and involving longer fluoroscopy as are the percutaneous aortic valve implantation devices on the mitral valve implant prosthesis in thoracic or abdominal aorta. The main concept of radiation protection were revised, the current context of interventional cardiology in the world and in Latin America in amounts of procedures as well as the cumulative doses can produce deterministic effects and NDR accepted worldwide.
