One of the deficiencies presented by physicians in their professional activity is related to the development of drug utilization studies. Among the causes, the insufficient training due to limited actions for professional development was identified. The theoretical and methodological aspects that justify the relationship between the professional development and the development of drug utilization studies are based on the importance of professional development as a process, which promotes changes in the physician’s theoretical and practical conceptions. However, it must be adapted to the demands of postgraduate studies in medical sciences according to the physician’s needs, the contextual conditions and the nature of the content for professional development.
