The life and science of professor of astronomy Igor S. Astapovich (1908–1974)

Abstract

In January 11, 2008 we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding astronomer, founder of the science of meteors in the USSR, Igor Stanislavovich Astapovich. His areas of research was multifaceted: the evolution of meteor streams and the relationship between the small solar system bodies, the problem of meteor security, meteor astronomy, meteor physics, meteor geophysics, meteoritics and other. Archive of observations of I.S.Astapovich contains over 40,000 meteors and is unsurpassed in the world. The list of his publications is about 800 scientific articles, books and brochures.
