The article examines some letters written by Matteo Franco, secretary and confidant of Maddalena de' Medici, Franceschetto Cibo's wife, during his stay in Rome (1488-1492). In particular, the attention focuses on three letters written in January 1492, that rank in an intermediate position between the public document and the private evidence. They are studied both in their communicative strategy and in their linguistic features, significantly reflecting several elements of the spoken language.
