Abstract: By aesthetic reasons, it is expected that the size of beam is as small as possible, but still able to support heavy load with ductile behaviour. This research sets out to investigate the ductility and bending capacity of high-quality overreinforced concrete beam, which is bridled in its compression path. Eleven high-quality beams of 200 mm x 300 mm x 400 mm with two different types, 60 MPa and 80 MPa, have been examined. The result shows that two beams with low-reinforcement have ductile behaviour, and two beams with traditional crossbars have collapsed brittly. Meanwhile, seven overreinforced concrete beams with special crossbars in its compression path have ductile behaviour. Moreover, it also shows the improvement of bending capacity significantly, and there is small difference between the experimental results and those of analytical results.
