The goal of the article is to restore and to analyze the historical and literary continuity between the works of the Russian writer of the second half of the 19th century, G. Uspensky, and Soviet essayists V. Ovechkin and E. Dorosh. The basis of this continuity was “the power of the land” formula discovered by Uspensky, which synthesized archaic ideas about the “mother-raw earth” and the religious idea of the resurrection of man. The “power of the land” has become a national myth, much-needed by the Russian intelligentsia during the crisis periods of the national culture. The article is addressed to all those interested in Russian literature.
