Introduction: The aim of our study was to determine the relationship between mean platelet volume (MPV) and duration of response to treatment in children with steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS). Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study which included 32 children with SSNS. The control group consisted of 32 age- and gender-matched healthy children. Results: The mean age of the children with SDNS (21 males) was 6.45±3.71 years and that of controls (20 males) 6.81±1.97 years. The duration of response to steroid therapy of the patients was 14.7±6.8 days. While there were no relationship between duration of treatment and the MPV, duration of treatment was inversely correlated with red blood cell count (r=-0.484, p=0.005). Conclusion: There was not an association between the MPV and the duration of response to treatment. However, the response time to treatment was increased with a decrease in number of erythrocytes. We may interpret this situation as follows: a decrease in red blood cell count may result in reduced delivery of oxygen to tissues. (The Me di cal Bul le tin of Ha se ki 2012; 50: 6-9)
