Argumentation et Analyse du Discours (Apr 2018)
Hétérogénéité énonciative/discursive et dimension argumentative dans le texte romanesque : Mission terminée (1957) de Mongo Beti
Abstract
This paper aims at showing how enunciative and discursive heterogeneity contributes to the construction of a significant argumentative dimension in the novel Mission to Kala (1957) by Mongo Beti. Focusing on the polyphonic, polyvalent, and complex composition of the narrator’s identity, protagonist and secondary characters, this paper seeks to expose the tensions between divergent social voices that emerge within the text. These tensions problematize the stereotypical image of Africa while raising seminal questions on the place and role of modernity and tradition in African societies on the eve of independence.
