AIM: To investigate the clinical effect of panretinal laser photocoagulation combined with calcium hydroxide in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy(DR). METHODS: Selected 120 cases(204 eyes)of DR patients who were treated in our hospital from January 2014 to December 2015 were randomly divided into study group(116 eyes in 66 patients)with calcium hydroxide, control group(88 eyes in 54 patients). Two groups were treated with panretinal laser photocoagulation, and the clinical effect of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: At 6mo after surgery, BCVA of study group was higher than that of control group, the difference was statistically significant(PPPP>0.05). CONCLUSION: Compared with simple laser photocoagulation, panretinal laser photocoagulation combined with calcium hydroxide for III - IV stage DR reduce fluorescein leakage area and CMT.
