Synthesis of some new protic N1-Benzyl/Butyl-2-methyl-4-nitro-1H-imidazol-3-ium salts with 3,5-Diaminobenzoate, 3,5-Dinitrobenzoate, (E)-3-(4-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate and 2-Carboxy-5-nitrobenzoate as organic anions

In the present work, a series of twenty seven new 4-Nitroimidazolium based protic molten salts and /or ionic liquids with organic anions namely N1-Alkyl-2-methyl-4-nitro-3-imidazolium-3′,5′-diaminobenzoates, N1-Alkyl-2-methyl-4-nitro-3-imidazolium-3′,5′-dinitrobenzoates, N1-Alkyl-2-methyl-4-nitro-3-imidazolium-ferulate and N1-Alkyl-2-methyl-4-nitro-3-imidazolium-5′-nitromonophthalates have been synthesized by the simple protonation of N1-Alkyl-2-methyl-4-nitro-1H-imidazoles with 3,5-Diaminobenzoic acid, 3,5-Dinitrobenzoic acid, (E)-3-(4-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl) acrylic acid and 5-Nitrophthalic acid respectively. All the synthesized imidazolium based molten salts and/or ionic liquids were obtained with excellent yields (95–99%) and characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectral studies. The conductivity data and pKa values were measured in 1:1 DMSO and H2O at room temperature.
