Transformations des conditions du mourir et nouvelles formes de socialisation à la mort
Abstract
This article shows that the process of end-of-life individualization cannot be dissociated from the recent emergence of new forms of socialization to death and dying. If the contemporary individual has freed himself from traditional ties, he must comply more with the constraints of new institutions (hospital, medical profession, associations, funeral parlors...) which now play a vital role. He can redefine, develop, personalize to a certain extent, the modalities of his care but these institutions occupy today a central place, as evidenced by the development of palliative care, the support systems for the bereaved, the preparation of his own funeral, or the process of joining euthanasia. In the following, we propose to question the diversity of forms of socialization that condition or direct the individual and social experience of dying.
