Bolesław Erzepki jako wydawca zabytków staropolskiej leksykografii – na przykładzie "Przyczynków do średniowiecznego słownictwa polskiego cz. 1" (1908)
Abstract
Bolesław Erzepki as an Editor of the Old Polish Lexicographical Works, on the Example of Przyczynki do średniowiecznego słownictwa polskiego cz. 1 (1908) Glosses recorded in an incunable 78d from the the Cathedral Library in Gniezno, containing the Latin-German dictionary called Vocabularius Ex Quo are important sources in research on the Old Polish lexis and the beginnings of Polish lexicography. It was abundantly quoted in the Etymological Dictionary of A. Brückner and the Old Polish Dictionary through the edition of these glosses published in 1908 by Bolesław Erzepki in the article Przyczynki do średniowiecznego słownictwa polskiego. 1. Glosy polskie wpisane do łacińsko-niemieckiego słownika (Vocabularius Ex Quo) drukowanego w roku 1490. The edition contains neither the description of the source document, nor the publisher’s introduction. So far his work has not been verified for its completeness and correctness. By comparing the published language material with digital photographs of the incunabule and analysing Erzepki’s handwritten notes stored in the Raczyński Library in Poznań, the author of this paper reconstructed the editor’s set of publishing principles and checked the accuracy of their observance. The edition shows great knowledge and diligence of Erzepki, but it does not fully reflect the complexity and diversity of the incunabule’s glossing. The examples of publisher’s errors and inconsistencies provided in this paper indicate the need to re-issuing the Polish vocabulary he discovered.
