கந்தபுராணத்தில் வினைக்கொள்கை - எடுத்துரைப்பியல் நோக்கு / A Narrative Study of Action in Kandhapuranam
Abstract
Narrative theory is a growing critical theory in contemporary Tamil literary studies. People use the language to express their inner thoughts. Creators create many works of literature using this language and spread their ideas in the world. Paraphrasing is the method used by the reviewer to convey those ideas to the readers. Narrative theory helps to bring out many elements like storyline, plot, events etc. found in literature like stories, songs, poems etc. The epic “Kandhapuranam” composed by Kachiyappa Sivacharyar is a mythological literature that elaborates from the birth of Murugan to the destruction of Soorabanman and the divine marriage of Murugan. “Kandhapuranam” is full of Saivite ideas, and emphasizes the principle of action as per karma. Muruga was born to destroy Soorabanman, who imprisoned and tortured the Devas. “Kandhapuranam” has the basic theme that the reason for the Devas being bullied by Soorabanman is because of their prideful and vile actions. In this way, the purpose of this article is to study how the principle of action has been located in the narrative structure of the “Kandhapuranam” and how the author Kachiyappa Sivacharya presents the principle of action through the narration of the story.
