Atlantic Forest Vulnerability in Southern Bahia Leading the Expansion of its Economic Border

Abstract

This article presents the Atlantic Forest vulnerability in Ilhéus’ northern region in front of the proposal to create a new economic frontier: project Porto Sul. The concepts to the topic "border", its main typologies, and highlights about Atlantic Forest vulnerabilities on the region are presented in this paper. From theoretical review about the border theme, it has been identified some overlaps about future implantation of Porto Sul. To do so, it has been used a qualitative and descriptive methodology from public data and unstructured interviews. Our goal is to identify, under biodiversity conservation point of view if ecological boundaries can coexist with the new economic one. Keywords: Environmental Impact; Conservation; Border.
