Due to insufficient support from agricultural policies, NGOs have tended to fund women’s agro-ecological transition initiatives. However, there are limits to this funding, which call into question the ability of NGOs to make these initiatives sustainable and to ensure that women play a key role in them. Drawing from an empirical study based on qualitative research with 100 female members of women’s organizations in Senegal, this study examines the role of funding in the sustainability of organic market gardening and rice growing. The results show that the technical and financial support systems provided by NGOs lead to monopolization and the search for additional funding, which have no direct impact on the sustainability of these women’s initiatives.
