THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INTERNET ADDICTION AND STUDENTS’ PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS
Abstract
Purpose. The article is devoted to the relationship between internet addiction and students’ personality characteristics. The analysis of researches, published before in home and foriegn psychology and the results of personal empirical study are reported. Methodology. Theoretical analysis of the problem of study; empirical research methods: Chen Internet Addiction Scale (CIAS), Tarnow Unchankble Test, Rotter’s Locus of Control Scale, Emotional Empathy Questionnaire by A. Mehrabian & M. Epstein, Sensation Seeking Scale by M. Zuckerman, Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI); mathematical methods of statistics (dispersion, correlation and factor analysis). Results. The research shows that internet-dependence influences on the personality development. The essential differences in psychological characteristics between internet-dependent and internet-independent persons under the test were found out. Practical implications. The received results help to specify scientific belief about the nature, formation and development logic of Internet addiction, also the ways to creation of Internet addiction prophylaxis model.
