Intercropping Technology and Technical Efficiency of Farm Households in Burkina Faso. This paper analyzes the effect of intercropping on the technical efficiency of agricultural households in Burkina Faso, using the directional distance function approach. The data were collected from 303 households in 2012 and 2013 by the Laboratory of Quantitative Analysis Applied to Development-Sahel of the Thomas Sankara University. Evidence shows that intensification of intercropping improves technical efficiency, as well as education and animal traction. In contrast, the age of the household head and the dependency ratio reduce technical efficiency. In order to sustainably improve the technical efficiency of farm households, actions should focus on integrating intercropping into agricultural development plans and programs, building capacity through training and agricultural supervision, and improving access to agricultural equipment and basic social services (education).
