Synthesis of nanoparticles by co-precipitation is one of the most efficient, inexpensive and effective methods. Control of the important parameters on the synthesis of nanoparticles, such as surfactant type, pH of the environment, reaction time, adding the rate of the base solutions, etc., play a significant role in the synthesis of nanoparticles. Generally nanoparticles with smaller size and appropriate dispersion (non-agglomeration) have higher efficiency and, show greater performance. In this study, we synthesized magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles by co-precipitation method and characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) the accuracy of the synthesis method, also the effect of the CTAB surfactant and the rate adding of the base solution in the method were examined. The results indicated that using CTAB surfactant can help to prevent of agglomeration and, consequently, led to best dispersion in different solutions and also increasing of the speed of addition of base solutions, led to a reduction of the dimensions and thus improve the performance of these nanoparticles.
