Guidance is now considered not only as the selection and assignment of pupils on the basis of their grades, but also as a gradual process of building a personal project. Over the last ten years, in addition to school coaches, out-of-school actors have developed, intervening inside or outside school, on a commercial basis or not, in order to help pupils in the construction of this project. Despite their heterogeneity, both in terms of status and in terms of the actions they implement, these actors share some common characteristics – their proximity to the business world, an ambiguous relationship with school and, above all, a conception of guidance based on common presuppositions – which this article proposes to examine through an analysis of the representations they carry.
