Impact of Education on Social and Economic Inequalities in Romania
Abstract
In all societies, even into the economically developed societies, the differences related toeducation generate inequalities, since the possibility to find a well-paid job, to start a business orto perform an independent activity, as well as the income and the pension of the individuals aredepending on the educational attainment to a large extent. The educational attainment is directly linked with other social phenomenon, like social class, residential status, race or gender. Recent studies show that income, residence and ethnicity are thekey factors that influence educational level in our country. The paper shows that the large investments in modern infrastructure of communication made inthe last years are an important factor for sustainable development, but it still exist inequalitiesamong regions of Romania, between rural and urban spaces, etc. The risk is that a large portion ofRomanians will become or remain a "computer underclass" inside European Union.
