THE SHAKEN INFANT SYNDROME
Abstract
The shaken infant syndrome (SIS) is responsible for at least 50% the deaths of children caused by non-accidental trauma (intentional trauma). Children at greater risk for this syndrome are usually under the age of 15 months; the median age is three months. Complete physical examination is followed by neuroimaging of brain (CT scan and MRI) radiographs of all the bones. Prevention must be made through information of parents, especially during pregnancy and after birth.
