On Portrait of an Ancient Historian: Priscus of Panium
Abstract
This study aims at describing the biography of Priscus who is one of the 5th century Roman historians and who wrote a main source about Huns. Because of the relationship between the text and the writer, knowing Priscus provides better understanding for his work. We prepare this study as it is not come across a literature about this subject in Turkish and we hope it contributes in filling this gap. In this context, fragments of his work were compiled through revising another works of contemporary historians and it was evaluated by considering arguments of the historians who deal with this subject. In this manner, it was attempted to produce knowledge and to create the portrait of the historian as much as a scrappy pool of information allows.
