Modeling Road Accessibility in a Flood-Prone Area in Romania
Abstract
Floods are repetitive and unpredictable phenomena. Interventions in these cases are carried out during or after a hazard’s occurrence. The quality and density of the roads, the equipment of emergency intervention centers, and the proximity of these centers to risk areas influence accessibility and intervention capacity. An analysis of this issue is carried out in the present article for a small catchment in Romania in a predominantly hilly area. Areas with very high and very low road accessibility are identified. Proximity to emergency centers can reduce travel time, thus increasing the surfaces of well-served areas.
