In this article, I describe the answers of a northern Thailand village community to protect itself against the varied risks and the uncertainty which it faces. Firstly, I present the major agricultural, economic and social changes lived by the village recently. Secondly, I analyze the consequences of these evolutions by claiming that, in the contemporary situation, villagers are subject to new risks and suffer from a deep feeling of uncertainty regarding their community’s future. Before risks, the answers are less and less local and there is a dependency on actors and organizations beyond the village level. By contrast, I show that the community relies on numerous religious means to appease the feelings of uncertainty, and that it is developing a touristic activity helpful in relieving concerns towards the future.
