‘Blind Dislike of Anything New’
Abstract
The first textbook on midwifery written in Icelandic was published in 1749. Its origin can be traced to several late seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century European pioneers in obstetrics and anatomy. Despite its scientific background, the book received mixed reactions from its readers, which demonstrates a culture of scepticism towards change and innovation in eighteenth-century Iceland.
