The article provides a comparative analysis of the institution of the referendum in the countries of Eastern Europe. The forms, features of the structure and organization of the referendum process in Slovenia, Poland, Ukraine and Russia are characterized. The main stages of the development of the institute of referendum in these countries are indicated. Their legal system is compared. The national specificity of using the institution of referendum in the political systems of these countries is demonstrated. The role of individual political groups in initiating and holding referendums is shown. Conclusions are drawn about the similarities and differences between the institutions of the referendum in these states.
