The development of new learning systems outside of the school setting compels us to take into account the complexity of situations that oppose any institutional and practical demarcation. The description and analysis of the way that didactic and teaching devices in the instruction of a sports educator try to delimit and to organize the learning situation shows that this complexity is hardly ever taken into consideration. It is this complexity and its effects of disorder and uncertainty that we place at the core of the didactic and teaching reflection. We notice then how much the activity of the learner—provided that it is put into dialogue— leads to effective learning. The theories of complexity and systemics enable us to redefine the place and structure of didactic and teaching devices in relation to the learning situation.
