Bronzezeitliche Fleischverarbeitung in Hallstatt
Abstract
The spectrum of animal bones from the Bronze Age strata at the site of Salzbergtal in Hallstatt indicates that they were supplied in this area with large quantities of meat, which was cut up in a special manner. The interpretation is offered that the often noted large buried wooden vats served for pickling meat. Optimal conditions existed in the prehistoric salt mines for the preservation (curing) of meat.
