Tales as an educational resource in health education: a study made by students of the University of Alcalá Degree of Health Biology and the NGO Action Aid
Abstract
Respect to the development of a subject in the Health Biology Grade, University of Alcalá, students raises the possibility of applying the contents in the population group of children between three and seven years. The aim was to explain, in simple language, basic questions about the prevention and control of the major parasitic diseases that affect children. The way to do it was through stories, short stories or poetries with drawings, also made by students. Texts and drawings were completed with the photographic work of another group of students that made in their practical (as a part of the course) that consists in making parasites virtual atlas. So, in each story, they have also added more specific explanations of parasitic organisms that cause diseases under the heading Do you know that ... ? The result of this work was the edition of a parasites stories book collection of entertaining, educational, aesthetically attractive and especially useful for college students. These stories cover the educational needs of an NGO (ActionAid) and it has been used as the basis for publishing a book that has been offered to teachers in schools both, Spanish and other countries, in which ActionAid operates under the Program “Now Playing” as a tool to teach values to children, creating a circle of innovation, quality in education and solidarity.
