A numerical study on effect of underground cavities on seismic ground response due to Rayleigh wave propagation
Abstract
ArticleHighlights During Rayleigh wave propagation, the presence of cavities increases surface displacements, especially in the vertical direction. Parametric analyses show that incident R-wavelength and cavity depth are significant parameters on ground motion amplification of surrounding the cavity. The finding indicates the necessity of integrating R-waves and cavities interaction into seismic structure design procedures.
