The portrait of Istolacio, Indortes and Orissón in school textbooks and in the regular publications of the 19th century

Abstract

In the 19th century Spain is consolidating its national identity, making use of the old heroes of antiquity. The aim of this paper is to analyze the presentation of the characters of Istolacio, Indortes and Orissón provided by school textbooks, newspapers and magazines, showing the role that these three Spanish leaders played in the new national history and their contribution to the creation of the Spanish self-identity during this century.
