Economic development is an indicator of the quality of life of a population; its counterpart is poverty and marginalization. If there is a region development process, then that region is economically stagnant and its population suffers from lack of basic goods and services. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the development in the Lerma-Chapala region of Michoacan and how it has increased the marginalization and poverty in the last ten years. The analysis is based on the official indicators of poverty and marginalization and how these have evolved in this region. The stagnation suffered by the Lerma-Chapala region has meant a gradual increase in the marginalization and poverty of its population without any productive structure that promotes growth andeconomic development.
