Mediastinal epithelial hemangioendothelioma

Abstract

Mediastinal epithelial hemangiothelioma is a rare, low-grade vascular tumor originating in the endothelial cells. This is the case of a 40-year-old patient, admitted to the Internal Medicine Ward for lack of air and edema in the upper chest, with a diagnosis of inflammatory pneumopathy that did not resolve with treatment. Simple and contrasted tomography was performed, in which a large tumor mass was found in the upper and anterior mediastinum, in contact with the superior vena cava. In addition, nodular lesions of metastatic appearance and pleural effusion. The patient was referred to the Pulmonary Shadows clinic and it was decided to perform an aspirational cytology of the mediastinal lesion, which reported a low-grade mediastinal epithelial hemangiothelioma. Subsequently, the patient underwent surgery, and a partial resection of the tumor and the lesion of the right lung was performed, diagnosed as metastasis. Due to the low frequency and clinical characteristics of this type of condition, as well as the difficulties posed by its care, the case is presented
