The ability to hydrolyze xylane has been investigated in 353 strains of bacteria belonging to 23 species of genus Bасillus. Xylanase activity was revealed in 207 strains of the genus (58,6% from all investigated cultures). Strains of species B. subtilis (111 strains) and B. megaterium (11 strains) dominated among them. Strains of species B. licheniformis, B. pumilus, B. cereus, B. species, B. oligonitrophilus also displayed activity against xylane. Cultures of species B. circulans, B. thuringiensis, B. sphaericus, B. badius, B. bombycis, B. lentus and B. pulvifaciens did not appear any activity.
