Sportswomen’s image in Spanish Literature
Abstract
This article is a review of the Spanish literature looking for women doing sports in different disciplines. What we have realized is that the different texts capture a reliable image of the Spanish sports history. We have samples of different genres – being poetry the most frequent one – where the female is not considered in the same way as the masculine. There are also several sports activities commonly practiced by women as for example swimming or tennis, both considered as typically feminine, rather than football – regarded as something masculine –. So, we are going to describe the evolution of the Spanish sports literature, being women the main character. There is also an analysis of the women’s roll in these texts in order to see if there is a different perception.
