Kosovo division in April war 1941
Abstract
The importance of participation of Kosovo Division units in April War lies in the task assigned to them, namely, the preventive incursion into Albanian territory in order to protect the Morava-Vardar communication from Italian attack. The division was, after successful initial incursion as far as the river of Drin, stopped by this natural barrier. Invasion of the German troops, which managed to break the resistance of the Yugoslav forces from the east, caused the division to break into two parts, where the first continued with the assigned task, while the other had to defend communications in Metohia. General breakdown of the Yugoslav army and signing of the truce, caught the division in its position, where they surrendered - they either got killed by Arnauts in the mountains of North Albania, or surrendered to Italians near the town of Skadar.
